We take an “inside the gate” approach to sustainability, proactively choosing to be accountable for the resources we use, the products we produce, and our impact on our community. By focusing on an “inside the gate” approach to sustainable manufacturing, HARBEC has greater control on our impact on human health and the environment while simultaneously creating sustainable value for our customers and community.


Sustainability is a long-term journey, and here at HARBEC we have been on a 20-year road to create a culture of skilled employees, a state-of-the-art facility, and a unique business opportunity that continuously strives to advance sustainable manufacturing as an opportunity for our business, our customers, and the community in which we operate. HARBEC fosters a mentality of sustainability that permeates our corporate culture. With any project or new initiative, our employees ask themselves, “How does this impact the environment?” As a team, we have a proactive awareness, and personal responsibility, for protecting the environment. As a result, we have developed many ingenious solutions to conserving water, reusing scrap, and eliminating pollutants. Over the past few decades, HARBEC has taken many strides to evolve into one of the most environmentally friendly manufacturing firms—not only in the country but worldwide. As every member of HARBEC agrees, we will meet today’s needs without compromising those of future generations. And we invest responsibly to stand behind this commitment—because we take the welfare of our global community seriously.

Four areas comprise HARBEC’s sustainability values:

  • Resource Management – including financial, people, and materials management.
  • Environmental Stewardship – including certification and ongoing continuous improvement goals tied our ISO 14001, and focused environmental objectives including working toward water neutrality (2015 goal), and ongoing targets for waste minimization and recycling.
  •  Energy Stewardship – including our adoption of an energy management strategy, proactive partnerships with the U.S. Department of Energy’s Better Plants program, adoption and certification to ISO 50001/SEP, and business achievement of carbon neutrality (2013).
  • Innovation and Product Support – including our commitment to support others’ journies toward realizing their objectives for sustainable products. HARBEC provides sustainable design, materials, and manufacturing solutions including our technical capabilities around energy-efficient additive manufacturing, more environmentally benign biopolymers, and our ability to deliver carbon conscious components at no additional cost to our customers.


HARBEC’s 50,000 square foot manufacturing facility operates three shifts, six days a week. HARBEC’s manufacturing capabilities include a diverse set of specialized equipment, including injection molding machines, CNC machining centers, CNC lathes, EDM machines, 3D printers, and a range of other specialized machines. As a manufacturing company HARBEC use resources including energy, water, materials, and fuels. We produce custom injection molded parts, CNC machined components, 3D printed and additive manufactured precision parts and prototypes, and other finished manufactured parts and assemblies. As a by-product of our operations HARBEC also produces waste which we are constantly trying to minimize. Our operations impact our employees, suppliers/vendors, customers, neighbors, and the natural environment. Given our manufacturing context we have focused our sustainable manufacturing efforts on two critical goals: achieving Carbon Neutrality and Water Neutrality. HARBEC achieved Carbon Neutrality in 2013 and achieved Water Neutrality in 2015.
